When it comes to manga and anime like Dragonball, Rurouni Kenshin, or Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure, where our protagonists stand toe-to-toe with devastating foes, I find that what my friends and I focus on isn’t the over- the-top action that occurred in their hallmark fights and training montages—but how those moments changed and developed the characters we came to love. 

This game is made for creating these types of stories. Its combat rules are written loosely so that it can be easily applied to the logic of the world your group is trying to create. It’s written for 2 or more players and uses dominoes for its resolution mechanic. Its mechanics are loosely based on the Powered by the Apocalypse game engine.

Manga Riot Beam-Struggle was created as part of the Jumbled Up July 2K19! game jam. I was excited about the theme of this game jam, which was to create a tabletop role-playing game without dice or cards as the resolution mechanic. Unfortunately, this month I moved from one side of the United States to the other. For that reason I wasn’t able to give this game the attention it deserved. Instead of giving up, I created this beta version of the game and I’ll be publishing it within hours of the deadline.
